 Police arrest minor girl’s rapist

Islamabad Capital Territory Police have arrested a suspect involved in kidnapping, rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl near the Barri Imam shrine, police said.

The Secretariat Police on complaint of Rizwan Abbasi, a resident of Rawalpindi, registered a case and traced out the dead body of 8-year-old Ghulam Zainab from a nullah near Barri Imam shrine on June 12, who according to post-mortem report was raped.

Inspector General of Police Islamabad Syed Kaleem Imam and SSP (Operations) Tahir Alam Khan constituted a special team comprising SP (City) Sajid Kiayani, DSP Liaqat Niazi, Sub Inspectors Muneer Hussain Jaffery, Shahid Mehmood Inspector (Investigation) M. Uqab and ASIs Ansir Mehmood, Rasheed Ahmad. The team started investigation and arrested 40 persons for interrogation.

The police, finally, succeeded in tracing out the real culprit, later identified as Muhammad Shabbir, a resident of Street-25, Gulshan Ravi, Lahore.

The suspect, during the questioning, confessed that he took away the girl with him by luring her that he will give her icecream and sweets and raped her. He disclosed that the girl died during the rape. He said that he threw her body in the nullah near Quaid-i-Azam University and escaped.

The Inspector General of Police Islamabad Syed Kaleem Imam and DIG Operations Binyamin have appreciated the performance of the team saying Islamabad police are serving the people despite tough law and order situation.
