KARACHI: A Lahore-based LPG marketing company on Thursday received a licence for setting up an auto-gas station, the first to regularise the sale of this fuel, which is usually marketed by illegal decanters.
Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has issued a licence to Noor LPG, which has already completed the prerequisite legal work for constructing the station, the company’s CEP told The News.
“It will be inaugurated by next August,” said Bilal Jabbar, CEO of Noor LPG. “This will help in eliminating decanting of LPG.” About the OGRA approved LPG auto-kits, he said that the station will also have a conversion facility. “The station won’t fill LPG cylinders for domestic use. However, cylinders could be exchanged.”
He did not agree that the promotion of LPG as fuel for automobiles is not feasible because of its limited supply, adding that production from new sources will come online in the coming years. “LPG auto-gas stations will help bring price stability. I believe the price will be close to the distributor’s rates.”
He said that other marketing companies are also awaiting such licenses and that an advertisement campaign will soon be launched to promote LPG use in cars.
